The Osun State Governor, Alh. Gboyega Oyetola has commended the contributions of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) towards improving the educational sector in the State.
The Governor gave the commendation at the government house, Osogbo while receiving national and state officials of the professional body of Chemical Scientists in Nigeria on Thursday, 16th September, 2021.
Gov. Oyetola, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Benedict Gboyega Alabi, noted “Chemistry profession is the bedrock of industrialization, health/pharmaceuticals, educational sectors which makes CSN relevant stakeholders in national development”.
“The State Governor applauds the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) for the Empower Osun Chemistry Educators Workshop 1.0 held at Osun State University, Osogbo earlier today (16/09/2021) in which 200 Chemistry Educators including Chemistry teachers from public secondary schools were trained”.
The Government shall do the needful to sustain this initiative and to see to your request for Land to build Chemistry House” the Deputy Governor said.
Responding on behalf of CSN President, Prof. Moses N. Chendo, the Deputy Vice President, South-West, Dr. Isaac Sewanu Bankole, thanked the State Governor for the warm reception and on-going educational reforms in the State. He pledged continued partnership on Chemistry Education, Chemical Security and Safety, among others.
Dr. Bankole disclosed the CSN National Body’s resolve to confer the prestigious honorary Fellowship of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN) on the Osun State Governor at the 44th Annual Conference holding in Lagos, November 07-11, 2021.
CSN National Officials were in the State (Osun) for the 177th National Council Meeting held at Fountain University, Oke-Osun, Osogbo from 17th to 19th September, 2021. The National Council is made up of all National Executives and Chapter Chairmen drawn from 36 States of the country including FCT-Abuja.
CSN President, Prof. Moses Nkem Chendo, while addressing correspondents in Osogbo, Osun State capital, expressed satisfaction over the successful hosting of the meeting.
“The fruitful partnership between CSN and the State Government in capacity building of Chemistry teachers will translate into the improvement of education in the State” Prof. Chendo, noted.
It was also fun as the Nigerian Chemists did not depart Osun without a tour to the famous UNESCO accredited cultural heritage site, the Osun Sacred Groove- a citadel of Osogbo history.
Officials of the National Commission for Museums and Monuments welcomed the National Council members to the reserved ecosystem sanctuary: the abode of the Osun River Goddess and a habitat for wildlife especially monkeys.
“Osun State is quite peaceful and serene with excellent preservation of African culture, we are here to brainstorm on moving CSN forward as well as explore nature; it is fun at the Osun Sacred Groove and the experience will remain memorable” CSN National Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Theresa Ojomo said.
Osun Chapter Chairman of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Dr. Mrs. Esther Oremeyi Faboro, a Senior Lecturer at Bowen University, Iwo pointed out “This is the very first time, Osun Chapter will be hosting the National Council Meeting in 50 years of CSN existence. We are happy it is happening in our time”.
The Chairman Organizing Committee & Program Coordinator of the Empower Osun Chemistry Educators Workshop, Mr. Isijaan A. Nkanta thanked all stakeholders, participants and sponsors as well as CSN National Council members for the success of both events.
