ICCON Focuses on Waste Management in Chemical Industries at 15th MCPD

All is set for the 15th Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Workshop and Induction/Investiture of

Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON) holding on the 20th & 21st October, 2021 at the Mahmud Tukur Theater B, Bayero University Kano, Kano State

The theme of the 15th MCPD Workshop is ‘Chemical Industries and Waste Management in Nigeria: Tackling Present and Future Health Risks and Environmental Hazards’ with Prof. Aliyu Jauro, DG National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) as the Keynote Speaker.

Other Sub-Themes include: ‘Application of Green Chemistry for the Reduction of Industrial Wastes’, ‘Implications of Inefficient Chemical Inventory Management in Nigeria’s Chemical Industry’, ‘Chemicals, waste management and the realisation of SDGs in Nigeria’ and ‘Circular Economy: The Role of Chemistry in Recycling and Other Waste Management Practices’

 

Interestingly, this will be the 2nd MCPD to be overseen by Prof. Fanna I. Abdulrahman, first female President/Chairman, ICCON, after the 14th MCPD held in Port-Harcourt in May this year which was a resounding success.

Chemist Wilford Jwalshik, Registrar/CEO ICCON noted that ICCON will be focusing on effective management of wastes in chemical industries at the forthcoming 15th MCPD in Kano this October, in line with the Institute’s mandate to ensure professionalism in chemistry.

 

“We shall collaborate with relevant stakeholders including National Environmental Standards & Regulations Agency (NESREA), Federal and State Ministries of Environment, Waste Management Society of Nigeria (WAMASON), Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and others to ensure that Waste Management Systems particularly in the Chemical Industries is improved upon” Jwalshik said.
