It’s few days to the 43rd Annual International Conference of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) holding from Sunday, 22nd to Friday, 27th November, 2020 at the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Plot 427, Aguiyi Ironsi St, Maitama District, PMB 232, Garki, Abuja.

Here are three (3) reasons why all Chemical Scientists: Chemistry lecturers, educators, industrialists, government officials, laboratory technologists, chemical marketers and investors should endeavour to attend this year’s historical Conference. Read on!

#1. It’s the Largest African Gathering of Chemists!

There’s no argument about this: CSN Annual International Conference is the largest gathering of Chemists in Africa. It attracts Chemists from all strata: Academia, Government MDAs and Industries including lecturers, researchers, scientific officers, technologists, captains of industries, policy makers, investors, Chemistry educators (teachers) and Students drawn all Chapters across the 36 States of the country and FCT-Abuja.

Also, participants from other African countries including Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Botswana, Liberia, etc. who are members of Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC) as well as delegates from American Chemical Society (ACS), Royal Society of Chemists (RSC), United Kingdom and IUPAC have been participating in recent times.

#2. A Platform To Contribute Towards National Development!

Gradually, CSN is taking the lead, amongst other professional bodies, in solving national problems. During the COVID-19 pandemic, CSN produced high quality hand sanitizers branded ‘CHEMSOTIZERS’ and nose masks which were officially handed over to the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 as part of her contributions in tackling the pandemic.

CSN is also at the forefront, championing Chemical Security & Safety issues with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). This year’s Conference theme revolves round the subject in a collective quest to effectively control chemical hazards on Nigeria.

Practicing chemists with different areas of specialization categorized into various divisions: inorganic, organic/pharmaceutical, physical/industrial, analytical/environmental, nanotechnology, biochemistry, computational and chemistry education will also be making research presentations at the national Conference all geared towards national development. Where else should any professional chemist in Nigeria, be?

#3. It’s a CSN Election Year!

It’s not enough to complain that CSN is not as vibrant as it ought to be, you need to be part of the process! Especially, this year when a new set of CSN national leaders will be elected at the Abuja 2020 Conference. It is the right of every financial member to choose to pilots CSN affairs in the next three (3) years as the tenure of the Prof. Sunday Olawale Okeniyi led National Excos, that has moved CSN to greater heights, elapses.

No true professional can grow on his/her own, you need to mingle and meet new challenges in your field, network with your contemporary and senior colleagues to step forward! Medical, legal, media practitioners and others are actively engaged in their professional activities to move their career forward!

For chemists, CSN ABUJA 2020 Conference is the place to be this November 22-27, 2020. Opening Ceremony holds on Tuesday 24/11/2020. You can still make it. For more details on Conference registration and programs, kindly visit:
